A friend has expressed interest in ressurecting my non profit group plan, but retooling it for more of a political thing then a musical thing(at first). That is fine/awesome with me, because I can't be independent, I am far too pessamistic, passive, and shy. We are going to get burritos and then have a meeting.... Our first objective will be to get a movie showing going. The aim I think will be to keep everything to the tri city area. Frankly, fuck doing anything in berkeley and san francisco. It is way to far, and for lack of a better word, pretty "Liberal" already. The suburbs are way more apathetic and I think it would do alot more good to stage everything here. We'll see how this pans out, but fuck it, I can dream, again. Here are a bunch of pictures from the past 2 weeks. Hella partying.

taken from my bike....drunken bike riding in action, can't beat it. the bike riding part that is.
wtf

WASHINGTON - John Glover Roberts Jr. became the 17th chief justice of the United States Thursday, overwhelmingly confirmed by the Senate to lead the Supreme Court through turbulent social issues for generations to come. The Senate voted 78-22 to confirm Roberts .. as the successor to the late William H. Rehnquist, who died earlier this month. All of the Senate's majority Republicans, and about half of the Democrats, voted for Roberts.

What the fuck?

Don't get pregnant!!

It seems like in alot of communitys im in there is a post on contraceptives every couple of weeks. I know people may or may not have access to free clinics, or places to get free contraceptives, I think people can be privllaged and not realize it. Even so...... all these alternative methods, like raising the ph in a womans vagina with vitamin c...pull out method... these are not healthy or plausible ways to prevent pregnancy!.

Myths: http://www.mjbovo.com/Contracept/NO_Contracep.htm
General info: http://www.salisbury.edu/health/contraceptiveresources.htm
Emergency Contraception: http://ec.princeton.edu/

Don't get me wrong, im not anti sex(although my life is the ultimate contraceptive for me, my life being anti-sex...), just anti-human. word.

What is this?

WASHINGTON - The way many high school students see it, government censorship of newspapers may not be a bad thing, and flag burning is hardly protected free speech.

It turns out the First Amendment is a second-rate issue to many of those nearing their own adult independence, according to a study of high school attitudes released Monday.

The original amendment to the Constitution is the cornerstone of the way of life in the United States, promising citizens the freedoms of religion, speech, press and assembly.

Yet, when told of the exact text of the First Amendment, more than one in three high school students said it goes "too far" in the rights it guarantees. Only half of the students said newspapers should be allowed to publish freely without government approval of stories.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=519&ncid=519&e=4&u=/ap/20050131/ap_on_re_us/students_first_amendment

egocentric over confident sellouts

Fuck, so when I got a call to play slims, I thought it would be funny, but its like watching a trainwreck crashing into a pile of shit. Bascially, we had to go to this meeting today on van ess, and so we go to sf for the day, hitting up ameoba, and pizza places since we have to be there anyway. Went to ameoba...got artimus pyle, whn/lifes halt split, and a threatner 7 inch. There was an annoying concert there for like so long.

So back to slims... We go to a meeting, with the thought that its stupid to hold a meeting for a show anyway. Basically, without going into to much detail(but i'll probably rant anyway), to be able to play still you have to sell 40 tickets before the day of the show. Uh...what? PLUS theres another meeting at the actual venue , before the show on a tuesday night. Theres also a bunch of other weird prize things for selling more tickets. Essentially, its a big complicated pyramid scheme(there are over 40 bands playing, if they each sell 1300 dolalrs worth of tickets...).

So if we don't sell enough to play, we are going to just keep the money and never whisper slims name again. The thing I forgot to mention also, is that there are 7 other bands from fremont tri city area that I know of playing this. Jesus. What if we sell tickets to people who only want to see us and then we can't play? Its pretty a fucked up corporate club kinda thing going on right here. It changed from a "haha, its going to be fun to play amoungst weak-metalcore and ska-pop bands", to a "I am working my ass off for some club without seeing a dime just to play" kind of thing. The fun part of playing shows has already been drastically reduced.

Anyone want to buy a ticket?

Shows, magical bus journey, and racoons. alot of pictures.

Saturday night, I went to gilman with foffle to see the show, it was pretty fun. I wore a pink shirt. I think it was opened by coldera, who is really good, low toned hardcore with melodic elements. I liked it. Then I think it was the ultimate event of a godstomper and machine gun romantics split set, which was cool. They both set up on the floor side by side, and one would play a song, then the other would. I was on the godstomper side, which sorta sucked that I wasn't in the middle so I could see both, but I got some pictures:

The drummer is fucking fast, his hands were like humming birds or something, like you could tell they were moving but looked like one shape.

Then I think dog assasin played in the store but it was crowded and foffle wanted a sandwhich from happy donuts. I got a crossiant and there was this fat hair sticking out of it which I tried pulling out but it was wedged in their pretty good. Gross.

Then we went back for scurvy dogs, and I guess they were cool, fast punk stuff. Then was born/dead and they were good as usual. Last was the almighty brain oil. I got a couple pictures of them too. They are redicously good live.

The next day, after waking up(thanks to greg), I take the bus to santa cruz, and wait for said greg. We then walked across the street(s) to street light which is like the best record store ever. Way better then the san jose one too. I got the I accuse! ep, because I never followed through on getting it and I didn't get it for xmas. Then from street light we just walked around...got pizza...walked...finally when to the show when it was near time and sat around for a while. It started, with this band I got a demo for at the slaughterhouse which are a bunch of kids who play like really fast punk with either hard to understand or some mexican lyrics. I wasn't feeling it that much, but they did not suck and they covered los crudos. Then was dog assasin, from reno, political fast punk, good stuff, took pics.

Im pretty passive taking pictures, I don't like moving around. Also, I used my digital cause I didn't wanna use film and it worked allright at gilman, but MANNNNNNNNN at the santa cruz show, I got fucked over so many times by my digital, where it would take a minute and a half to take a picture or sometimes wouldn't at all. Few were way blurry. So annoying, I had to be really lucky to get anything good. But uh, dog assasin pics:

Then coldera graced the stage again and I thought their set was so good. coldera:

then dun dun dun, MGR. I fucking love this band.

I have a few more but they aren't that good.
Then uzi suicide played, and was really good, less nudity then last time I saw them. I need to buy their records, I don't know why I haven't. I bought a tour shirt from MGR, and their split, and a coldera 7 and was out of money except for what I needed to take the bus(s) home. Next time...

there was total matress mosh chaos there, as there always is when you throw in cushions at a show, which has happened a few times at gilman or other shows, this time was no different...haha the MGR and coldera singers tried to kick ass but really after the song started they fell pretty quickly haha.

dogpile

Afterward I asked the uzi suicide singer how to get shows at 418...I fellt arogant for some reason. I hope I didn't come off that way. Oh well.

I had a lot of fun, and then we went back to campus. On the bus there there was girls who had that OMGZZZZZ voice, and talking about getting drunk and shit. Jesus christ. We ate...went back to his room...went on myspace and gossiped cause were fucking dumb. Then went walking...went to a lounge..watched mtv...walked..we saw a racoon! I love racoons.

Then I took artistic shots.
a pond:

Greg:

I am deep, truly deep.

I missed every forward to death date. fuck.
BREW DAY(part one)

First crack at brewing beer. Highly dumbed down(as in im not sophisticated to do it really good).

First I crushed my hop pellets, which was harder then I thought it would have been:

Then I sanatized my shit which is the most important part of brewing.

As I let that dry, i measured out my hops and then re hydrated the yeast

I filled up my brew pot with 3 quarts of water, brought to near a boil, added the malt which I found out is sticky as fuck even in powder form, dextrose(kind of sugar),and mixed, and then stired in the hops.

Afterward, I learned my first lesson insanley quickly which was good cause nothing went too wrong. When you add hops pellets, that shit is going to try hard to boil over.

This is it acting like its swamp thing and getting bigger and bigger, i stirred it hella quick when it started to foam excessivley, but some shit stuck to the sides, so I hope that dosen't impact it much.
Then time goes by and I filled it up, which was harder then I thought it was going to be. I had to sterialize a smaller pot, and then pour into that, and into my fermenter which is a cube shaped bag. I spilled hella wort,(well my dad did even thoguh i kept saying STOP STOP).

Then I let it cool for what seemed liek days, and I hope that dosen't cause major infection due to the air or anything. Oh well, its my first beer. I stuck it in my closet:
.

Things I learned:
a. Count better.
b. watch your boil like a hawk.
c. malt is sticky and will kill you
d. make sure malt dosen't stick the bottom of the pot.
e. don't let your dad pour your wort
f. wort takes forever to cool and it smells like odd tea or something not beer.
g. no matter how bad this turns out im sure its better then king cobra.

If it taste good, im going to call it crucial brew-ed.

In other news, I've been reading alot at night latley, which is nice cause even though I like to read, usually I can't cause my mind drifts to other thoughts and I have to re read a million things and oh whats the point and I go on here(computer). I've become so apathetic in a sense. I don't like it. I don't know what to do/think about that. I don't know how you become apathetic under Bush. Fuck deep livejournal thoughts.

In music news, there are like more shows then I know what to do with this weekend. Two shows are for sure: MGR on saturday, and MGR on sunday. If somehow I can make it to knife fight in santa cruz on friday then awesome. If i can make it to ludicra on friday then awesome. I don't want to be at home on friday though. I feel bad cause im going to miss forward to death every time they play this weekend. I wanted to see them. I can't believe im complaining over too many shows.

News paper article we were in hahahah.

By Eric Louie

CONTRA COSTA TIMES

LIVERMORE - Avi Cohn hopes to soon go on tour with his three-piece punk band, the Kramers. But first one of their members, who all attend Livermore's Granada High, needs to get a driver's license.

That's why he's thankful for the all-ages shows that take place in the garage behind Livermore's Unity skateboard shop.

"We need more places like this in different cities," said Avi, 16, whose band pulled in a large number of the roughly 70 teens attending Wednesday's show, with its friendly pushing and shoving that characterizes the music. "It gives us something to do, because Livermore has nothing to do," he said.

Since October, when it moved into bigger digs next door to its Railroad and North Livermore Avenue location, Unity has been booking shows on a more regular basis. The skate shop has scheduled twice-a-week shows through April. The mostly Friday and Saturday night events cost $5 to get in.

"They just keep coming," said Livermore native Antonio Trevino Jr., 29, who opened the shop with others in 2000.

Shows at Unity are held in a storage-like area of the building. Attendees enter through a covered side driveway, with the stage behind a garage door.

The space is randomly decorated. There's a disco ball hanging from the ceiling, and a couple of stuffed spiders. On stage is a life-size Ronald McDonald covered with various band and skateboard product stickers. On the wall behind the stage, the store's name is spray-painted in black and orange, with various posters in other spots.

In another room, filled with donated couches, there's a pinball machine, combination Ms. PacMan/Galaga arcade game and darts.

At Unity, crowd interaction is as much of the show as the performers. When the Kramers played, audience members freely walked up to the mikes to sing along.

There's no raised stage to keep fans from the band -- the stage is the same concrete floor the audience is on. When the Hyper Kidz played, one of their two singers took the microphone to the fans, often getting tangled up and sometimes carried around by audience members.

These days Trevino owns the shop with Jim and Rachel Stafford, who came on about the time of the move. They had all put on shows around Livermore before.

Trevino, who sings in The Fuzz and plays guitar in The Immortals -- which includes the Staffords' oldest son -- would hold shows in venues like pizzerias, meeting halls, coffee shops and parties.

He worked in local skate shops before starting Unity, having occasional shows in the parking lot. Then came the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, and business slowed.

"Business was so slow, so what I would do is take the inventory, put it in the back" and empty the shop for shows, he said. "It got so big so fast."

In fact, he said, it was too big, and he stopped. Then the space next door opened up.

But Trevino and Rachel Stafford say the music aspect of the shop, which besides skateboard equipment also sells clothing, is not about the money. With a capacity of about 130, and most shows drawing between 50 and 100 people, they don't make much.

The shop gives half the money to the bands, which all get an equal share no matter how popular they are.

There is no alcohol, and snacks are cheap. Fifty cents buys a hot chocolate, water, soda or cookies. Pretzels are a quarter.

The Staffords say they try to provide a safe environment parents would like. Rachel Stafford, 36, a real estate agent, and her husband have five children. He is the local Catholic Youth Organization track coach. There are no ins and outs for those under 21. Parents get in free. They try to end shows around 11 p.m., and monitor the area for trash and drinking or drug use.

A show next month will be a benefit for the San Francisco AIDS Foundation, and there have been benefits for Children's Hospital.

"It's more social than it is about the music," Rachel Stafford said.

Dana Johnson, 18, of Livermore doesn't usually go out of the area for shows. She was there Wednesday to see Hyper Kidz, whose members are mostly from Fremont. She met them while camping at Lake Del Valle in Livermore.

"It's just more fun to stay here because you know everyone," she said.

Hyper Kidz guitarist Demecus Hill said they had a great time Wednesday, with the crowd showing lots of energy. Hill, 18, whose band members range from 16 to 19, said they have never played a bar. He said they also probably wouldn't.

"We don't want people not to come because of their age," he said.

While most bands fall into the punk, hardcore and related categories, Trevino would like to include other types of music, like hip-hop. In his younger days he would go with friends to longtime all-ages punk venue 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley and other places there and in San Francisco to see bands play. Now with the area more developed, he sees more need for local, all-ages venues.

"We're kind of cultivating culture for the Tri-Valley," he said.
Last 3 days in more detail cause im bored.

So weds was pretty sick. Rolled up to the show go and chill for a bit cause it hasn't started yet. I see greg and his fuzzyness and talk to him and make him ignore his lady friend. She looked pretty miserable various parts of the night haha. Nothing really excitting happened. The first band played and they were boring to me personally so I stood in the back. Then the Kramers played and they reminded me of my old joke band but in livermore, and I was amused by that. Then we played and people went pretty crazy. Someone said it was the most pitness unity has ever seen, which is coo. We got paid like 40 dollars which was very very helpful in going twoards the recording the next day. For some reason the contra costa times interviewed us. I don't know, so we'll be the only thrash band who plays slims and gets in the newspaper.

Then later we spent the night at jens, and it was pretty chill. Just kinda sat around and then we went outside and I smoked pott for some reason, It just felt like the right thing to do. Then I think we went inside and into her room and threw shit at fans. And then instead of sleeping after that, people had a your mom cap session for like 2 hours. Thats why on the new cd the next day, like all the songs changed to be about dave fransis's mom. Infact donkey kongs sing along is now "i fucked dave fransis's mom"... 2 hours!!

Recording was Recording. Bart is god. He has hella good records on his wall. Cd sounds good.

Today I woke up at 3pm for some reason(fuck consciousness ) and got to work on some pre release cds. I did that all day and then went to the show. We played first and there was ok amount of peopel there for the first band. Its weird like when you play for like a show of livermore kids when no one really listens to the kind of music you play and then you play to a bunch of kids who do, I get nervous haha. No one did anything to us, it was a pretty still audience, but it was for a big chunk of the night. Then deconditioned went on and they were killer. Dan gets high on life. No one moved once again. Then was uhh, I think instant asshole with john the baker. they were good musically, but (unless they weren't serious and I am uptight) they have some pretty ignorant views of edgers, which im not even edge but its like talking shit on anything else. Then was coughing up blood who was sweet. Arizona has great bands, as was demonstrated by the following band rad squad as well. I picked up merch from both, also considering they were right next to our booth. Somewhere around here some band played, but I was too busy making wax city creations on our merch booth with other people. Candles, bottle caps and shit make hella cool art. Then hostile takeover played and they got the hugest reaction, and also headlined because street trash got caught in a mudslide or something. Bad times. Then I had to wait for my dad to come get us because our ride walked out on us. Bastard. Not even a little bit of fucking notice. Just left. Well, at least my dad is cool and knew where the place was anyway. I saw bunch of people but I didn't get to talk to them really which kind of sucks. I just talked to people from my band/other bands. Overall it was a good night/way to spend my birthday.

Check out new hyper kidz songs on hxcmp3.com (or my space)!
